Show Me Everything About: "video pick"

Video Pick: Lecrae - “Far Away”

by EJ on Mar.03, 2010, under Music

Just found myself enjoying this song and video, so I figured I’d post it for you guys.

It’s Lecrae’s “Far Away,” the lyrics of which present a very real and common-to-man plea– “God, where are you?” I love that, by the end of the track, Lecrae presents an answer– God’s not far away at all.

Lecrae recorded the song to benefit Haiti relief efforts and it’s available for purchase from iTunes.

The message is tight, the video is cool… I love it.

Video Pick: We Are The World 25

by EJ on Feb.15, 2010, under Music

Has everyone seen the music video for the “We Are The World” remake by now?

It features a bunch of artists, including BeBe Winans and Mary MaryBeBe grabs a verse on the song, while the ladies of Mary Mary get ad libs GALORE and a lot of camera time (in fact, you can see ‘em on the still screenshot below). They’re EVERYWHERE! LOL

What did you think of the remake?

Video Pick: Watch Marvin Sapp’s “The Best In Me”

by EJ on Jan.27, 2010, under Music

Yesterday, Verity Records released the video footage of Marvin Sapp singing his instant-hit single “The Best In Me,” at his recent live recording in Grand Rapids, MI.

I’m assuming this is the “official video,” so don’t go waiting for a storyline and fancy digital effects on Video Gospel. ;-)

In any case, I think it’s more than sufficient– it captures the energy of that moment (you can review my recap of that night) and does it what does.

Check it out:

Let me know what you think!

Video Pick: Coko’s “The Winner In Me” Premieres TODAY

by EJ on Jan.26, 2010, under Music

The newest video from Coko, for her title track “The Winner In Me,” premiered online today…

Check it out and lemme know what you think.

I like the camera shots and I think Coko looks great.  There are also some creative lighting effects, which I’m generally a sucker for.  I wish that the concept was interwoven throughout the video a bit more– like, if we had seen the story with the little girl playing out in the verses and the vamp, not just at the beginning and end of the video… I almost forgot about the little princess!

All in all, I think it’s cool and I’m glad that Coko’s got a video to aid in the promotion of her album.  In my opinion, the project has been underrated and severely slept on, so hopefully this will give it a nice boost.

Whatd’ya think???

Oh, and leave me a comment to let me know if you still don’t have the project. If enough of you say you don’t have it, I just might bless ya with a giveaway… :-)

Video Pick: Kirk Franklin & Friends - “Are You Listening”

by EJ on Jan.25, 2010, under Music

I’m assuming most of you have heard the song and seen the video by now, but it’s a big enough effort for me to push it as often as I can…

Here’s Kirk Franklin & Friends (a BUNCH of ‘em… LOL) singing “Are You Listening: A Love Song For Haiti.”

Don’t forget that you can buy the single at VerityRecords.com NOW and you can get it on iTunes on the 30th.

Video Pick: Tamela Mann - “The Master Plan”

by EJ on Jan.18, 2010, under Music

The latest video from Tamela Mann, for her single “The Master Plan,” premiered on BET’s Video Gospel yesterday.  I was probably still asleep when it aired, recovering from Stellar weekend, but thank God for YouTube!

Check it out:

For me, the video wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great.  When it opened, it felt more like a stage play than a music video (shout-out to Kim Fields in the hospital scene!).  There was a bit of over-acting all around, which sort of made things a bit corny.

THAT SAID, Tamela looked like a gazillion dollars (as always)– she was dressed well and they used some great shots of her.  I loved the scenes that she was in (the street she stood on, with the piano, seems to be the same street from Tyler Perry’s “I Can Do Bad All By Myself” movie– y’know, with Marvin Winans’ church in the background).

All in all, it’s a good effort and definitely serves its purpose– she conveys the message using two storylines and multiple shots of heartfelt performances.

Whatd’ya think of the video???

Video Pick: GI Premieres New Video - “Temptation”

by EJ on Jan.07, 2010, under Music

The fellas from gospel group G.I. (God’s Image) are premiering the video for their newest single, “Temptation,” today and I want you guys to check it out.

I like the concept of the video.  There are a couple of choices that I wasn’t thrilled about (i.e., the bottles and diamonds floating around, and some of the moving scenery behind the guys), but there were also some really great effects, like the glass moving across the table.  Overall, it’s got a clean look and it kept my attention with creative lighting and production choices.  I like!

by EJ on Jan.06, 2010, under Music

As I mentioned yesterday, the newest project from James Fortune & FIYA, Encore, is due in stores on January 26, 2010.

In December, the group recorded a live DVD of the album’s tracks.  One obvious stand-out from the project is the lead single (and title track), “Encore”…

Video Pick: Trent Cory - “Awesome Wonder”

by EJ on Nov.18, 2009, under Music

I raaaaved about Trent Cory in April (click here to read that).  Then I interviewed him in May.  Then I added this song, “Awesome Wonder,” to the PunditPlayer in June.  Then, JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise covered the song on their latest project, Resting On His Promise.  Coincidence?  Maybe… but JJ does read GospelPundit on the regular.  Gimme my credit, JJ!!! ;-)

Imagine my sheer delight when I learned that Trent recently released a VIDEO of this song! If you guys haven’t bought his album, Freedom Is, by now, I don’t know what more I can do.  BUY IT!

For your viewing pleasure, here’s the video of “Awesome Wonder”.  Watch and enjoy (and peep Aaron Lindsey on keys… he produced the project!).

Video Pick: Karima - “So Happy”

by EJ on Oct.30, 2009, under Music

Karima Kibble, former lead vocalist of gospel group Virtue, recently released her debut solo project, Just Karima.

She just posted the new video for her lead single, “So Happy,” yesterday.  And it goes a lil’ something like this:

It took me a minute to get the concept of the video, but I get it. There are a couple of slow-motion effects throughout the video that tend to drag the song’s energy down for me, but Karima looks great and I think it’s a much more quality video than we tend to see in our industry.

Your thoughts???
